Silk Farm, Wat Bo temple & Bayon temple
Sunday 20th October
Assembly in the lobby 12.00hrs
Price: 75 USD
Siem Reap is incredibly proud of its silk and, to quench our thirst for knowledge, we simple had to put on our schedule a visit to the silk farm to learn thoroughly all about the tedious process our lovely ties and scarves entail. At the Artisans d’Angkor every one lives for their trade, as is plenty visible during this most interesting tour.
In addition, a truly beautiful and peaceful sanctuary, Wat Bo, will show you how it feels like to be living the monastic life. Featuring a pagoda, a school and Buddhist sleeping quarters, the residents are most accommodating and may even show you around. It’s a genuine local community, shielded from the touristic blight of Siem Reap – certainly a hidden jewel, unveiled especially for our logistics family.
To finalise the tour, we have chosen the Bayon temple because of its beautifully excessive baroque style compared to the entirely classic Angkor Wat temple. It is not without reason that this specific temple used to be the very centre of the Ancient city Angkor Thom. As a famous pendula once said: “if it’s not baroque, don’t fix it.” Relish in the eccentricities and most detailed engravings, occasionally returning a smile to the many stone faces and, who knows, perhaps the mythical Preah Entrea lurking behind those stone faces will gift you with a wee bit of Khmer magic?
Banteay Srei temple
Thursday 24th October
Assembly in the lobby: 8.30 hrs.
Departure: 9.00 hrs.
Price: 75 USD.
The most beautiful temple, made from red sandstone and elaborate decorative wall carvings, is the Banteay Srei.
Built in the 10th century, this Cambodian temple has been dedicated to one of the principal Hindu deities: Shiva.
He is one of the principal deities of Hinduism and the Supreme Being within Shaivism, one of the major traditions within contemporary Hinduism – he who creates, protects and transforms the universe.
Although the buildings of Banteay Srei are small in comparison to Angkorian constructions, they are a precious gem and a true jewel of Khmer art. Small in size but great in value!
